"The Money" »

Holy shit. Louis C.K. made a million dollars off his ‘Live at the Beacon’ special that was self produced, self edited and self released. He’s also giving more of the money made off it to charity than he is keeping for himself. Best dude backed hard.

Michelangelo easel painting »

A friend mentioned this in a post regarding a trip to the Kimball Art Museum and I hadn’t heard/seen it before. Pretty crazy, the tl;dr is that it has been authenticated as a Michelangelo by the Met in NYC and it is believed to be an early easel painting done by Michelangelo when he apprenticed under Ghirlandaio.

I’ll probably read The Agony and the Ecstasy for the whatever time now because of this.

Saw this a few months ago and almost forgot about it! Interesting visualization of data collected by the CARISMA magnetometer array in Canada. CARISMA’s magnetometers detect disturbances in the Earth’s magnetosphere; one such disturbance being the ‘Solar Wind’ that is the result of the Sun ejecting subatomic particles from its upper atmosphere - the same stuff that results in the Aurorae/Northern Lights effect.

Both Voyager spacecraft are outfitted with what amounts to a cosmic ‘wind sock’ that measures the velocity of these charged particles. Measurements taken roughly a year ago showed that Voyager 1 had reached a point in our solar system where the solar wind had dropped to zero and news this past Monday indicated that the charged particles that drive the solar wind had turned inward as the craft approaches the edge of our system and near interstellar space.

Exciting.
